My Story

I grew up in the Metro Detroit suburbs. My family is an everyday family, mom worked full time, dad was in the military, my brother played hockey and I figure skated. But there was always one rule, if you are old enough to work, you get a job. So, at 14 I got a job. I was a bagger and cart girl at a local high-end grocery store. My favorite days were when we were sent into the aisles to "face" all the merchandise. I picked the wine aisle every time. Mostly, because I liked to look at all the cool labels and find the best artwork, but as I look back now, I realize wine had a path for me long before I knew it. As my work journey continued, I found myself in the restaurant industry in a fine dining atmosphere. Starting at Steak & Ale, Bravo, Benihana then escalating to Andiamo, The Gandy Dancer, Cantoro Italian Trattoria and Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. Andiamo is where my education really began. I remember being sent to a class to learn from the Sommelier of the company. My first tasting was a 2008 Silver Oak, Cabernet Sauvignon, you could say I was spoiled from day 1. That is also where I learned that wine was not just about some juice in a glass, it's about where it comes from, the history of the region, the agriculture, the culture. Over the years my experience has only evolved my passion, love and dedication to the art of wine. While working at Cantoro Italian Trattoria I earned my Level 1 Court Master Sommelier Certification. I am currently in the process of getting my Level 2 Certification. Nonetheless, Wine is what I live for.

Why Viva Pour Vino

I truly believe that the Universe brings people into your life for a reason. Well let me tell you a little story... I have a lovely friend named Joanne. We met years ago while working for 2 companies right next to each other and we hit it off right away. Our paths there would end pretty quicly, but it was only a matter of time. I then found myself sitting in a pre-shift meeting at Cantoro where our new Matra 'd was introduced... and guess what... it's Joanne! I was so excited! As time passed Joanne moved on and shortly after I followed. Not realizing that I was literally following her... We both ended up at Fleming's. She at one location and I at another, but I was able to spend all of my training with her. Again, the winds change, and we have not seen each other in years, but I am given some information about a new wine bar and restaurant opening, so I thought I would take a look. Well I walk in the back door and of all people, Joanne is standing there. She looked at me and asked me some serious questions, like what is my passion and why am I not putting all my knowledge and skills together as a serivce? On my ride home from my bear hug and conversation with my old friend, I came up with a name, concept and all the things. I realized that there is a need for someone who is passionate about wine to share the basics to help restaurants and wineries enhance their guest experience, sell more wine and create a culture around wine.

Thus, Viva Pour Vino was created.
